Yes: in the state of Ohio, where you will be seen for an in-person visit at our facility, allows physical therapists to complete an evaluation. We are required to notify your primary care physician in writing within 5 business days. We are then allowed to treat you for 30 days as long as you are demonstrating improvement. Our policy is that if you are not seeing improvement in 2 weeks, or your symptoms are getting worse, then you will be referred to your doctor sooner than the legally required time frame.
If for Scoliosis, research says the spine curves the most during peak growth or puberty. To maximize the potential of curve progression during this time, it is important the child is very consistent with their program and positioning during peak growth. That means they must know what to do. If they only know part of it, they cannot follow through entirely and will not have the best outcome. Activities, although important, can wait if they are approaching this phase — hormones and growth do not “wait a couple of weeks”.
Treatment frequency ideally is 6 sessions over 2 weeks to intensively learn what to do, then have a trial at home of 2-3 weeks and re-evaluate at that time for a total of 7 sessions.

If you are coming for scoliosis at any age, yes. We need 2 x-rays: Kyphosis view of the whole spine (lateral view), and scoliosis view of the whole spine (PA view).
If you are coming to help identify a movement dysfunction not related to scoliosis, no x-ray is needed for the initial assessment. We can help you decide if this is something you need once we evaluate you.
