How Kyphosis Impacts Lung Health: Insights from the Framingham Study

Picture
The Framingham Study sheds light on the long-term effects of kyphosis, a spinal curvature condition, on lung function in older adults. Over a 16-year period, researchers tracked the decline in forced expiratory volume (FEV1) among 275 participants and found that women with more severe kyphosis experienced a significantly greater reduction in lung capacity compared to those with milder curvatures. While similar trends were observed in men, the association was less pronounced. These findings highlight the importance of addressing kyphosis progression to mitigate its impact on respiratory health. Read the full study to explore how understanding kyphosis could improve pulmonary outcomes and quality of life in aging populations.
